This series of the Kent Family Papers contains records concerning Ira Kent (1803-1898) and his wife, Polly Curtis(s). Ira Kent's many personal diaries are included in this series and also contain livestock records and other agricultural information. There are also letters to Ira and Polly Kent from various family members, especially their son, Leroy Kent. Record books in the series contain Ira Kent's notes while serving as school commissioner and sheriff as well as logging, livestock, and dairy records, work notes, Calais post office accounts and poll tax lists, machine parts sales, and cash and account books. Also in this series are business papers for I. & A. Kent company, real estate property deeds, and Ira Kent's estate papers. The materials span the years 1831-1903. Additionally, included at the end of this series are letters, promissory notes, and other papers of two of Remember Kent's other sons, Abdiel Kent (1805-1887), and John Van Rensselaer Kent (1813-1892) from 1843 to 1870.

Ira Rich Kent (1803-1898), known as Ira, was the third of Remember and Rachel (Bliss) Kent's eight children. Ira Kent's siblings were Remember, Jr. (1799-1881); Rachel Bliss (1800-1897); Abdiel (1805-1887); George (1805-1885); Ezekiel (1811-1893); John Van Rensselaer (1813-1892); and Samuel Newell Kent (1817-1835). Abdiel Kent was born on November 10, 1805 in Calais, Vermont, the son of Remember and Rachel (Bliss) Kent. When he was 21 he moved to New Hampshire where he studied the mason's trade and opened a factory. He returned to Calais around 1830 and established a boot and shoe factory. In 1832 the factory added merchandise. In 1837 he became partners with his brother, Ira, and the store became "I. & A. Kent, Boot and Shoe Manufacturers". This shop operated for about 40 years.
